Goal Setting, Staying on Track, and Getting Back On Track
Setting a new goal can be difficult, especially if you’re trying to achieve a result you’ve set out for in the past and failed.
If you follow the steps I’ve outlined, you will be successful.
Use the acronym, SMART, to design the road map to your goal.
S – specific
M – measurable
A – attainable
R – relevant
T – time bound
Specific. Your end goal must be specific enough that you can develop a precise plan to achieve it. So, for example, if you throw a dart at bullseye, you’re much more likely to hit it if you’re not blind folded.
Measurable. Your target goal needs to be distinct and calculable. A number or an amount of money.
Attainable. In other words, the goal needs to be realistic. I’m not saying you can’t figure out how to breathe under water, just make sure that your next to points support this.
Relevant. Is the goal relevant and applicable to your life. Does it matter enough to see it through?
Time Bound. You need to give your goal a deadline, especially if there are smaller milestones you need to accomplish along the way.
BONUS TIPS!!!! MOST IMPORTANT PART
One of the hardest parts about achieving a goal is not giving up on it when the going gets tough.
That’s why you need to make ultra sure that the goal is “RELEVANT” and important to you.
In order to Stay on Track and Get Back on Track after you have derailed you need to do these 2 things.
BELIEVE – You need to have an unwavering belief in yourself and the outcome that you have set out to accomplish. If your goal is important to you, commit to it and have faith that you can get through the times that feel too tough to overcome, but you will because you believe and will persevere.
DON’T LOOK BACK – It’s almost guaranteed that you will have set backs, get off schedule, or completely derail. The key is to learn and remember the lesson from the down fall, and apply it in the future when you trip next time.Use your lessons as guides in the future to keep you holding on strong.
So remember, when you’re setting goals, make sure you set a SMART goal, that you believe absolutely 110% in what you’re setting out to accomplish and that you’re going to persevere through the tough times and apply the lessons you’ve learned to help get you over the hurdles in the future.
