The end of the week is time for a final push (for those of us in the corporate world) and then we can release.
Regardless of how successful or dreadful the week was, it’s time to accept what was accomplished, appreciate it, and recharge the batteries so the next week will be productive and prosperous (otherwise why bother?)!
What do I mean by revitalizing?
By revitalizing I mean letting go of the built up tension and then winding it back up (in a good way) to prep for a purposeful, productive week.
The Five ways to revitalize over the weekend.
- Be social – get together with friends, have a few drinks, let go of the tension and get a little loosey goosey. This is typically a good time to “treat yo self” by having a couple drinks, enjoying some appetizers, and celebrating the hard earned dough.
- Get sleep. Catch up on some Zs. Try to get to bed earlier so waking up on Monday is not so hard. According to Dr. Michael Breus, chronotype https://youtu.be/7yw0xQiUCvM, we don’t get enough sleep and getting in the habit of going to sleep and waking up at the same time should help. After pushing through long hours and waking up early, you should take the time to rest and let your body recover and restore.
- Get some exercise. If you didn’t have time to hit the gym this week, this is an opportunity to get back on track, even if it’s for a stroll through the park. Exercise is proven to reduce stress, depression, and anxiety.
- Food prep. Food prep can be simple, in fact the simpler, the better. Food prep is meant to save time during the week while providing a nutrition – and it’s cheaper than going through chick fil a. If prepping everything is too intense, just commit to something easy for breakfast (like a smoothie/shake with minimal ingredients) and lunch (tuna or canned chicken with a microwaveable frozen veggie) and then make dinner.
- Take time out for yourself. For me, this is going on a hike, maybe take my dog in her backpack, bringing a book, or my journal, finding a spot to rest in the woods and have a snack, write in my journal or doodle and let my mind wonder on its own little journey. Or go for a run on the beach. I prefer to be on my own for a couple of hours and let the sound of nature pour into my ears and feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. Your “you” time could be ANYTHING that relaxes your mind, your happy place. I would say to do something you don’t normally give yourself time to do during the week. If you don’t really watch TV allow yourself to binge watch some Netflix.
It’s good for you to be social, and let loose without overdoing it.
Remember, you want to go into the next week feeling refreshed and prepared not sloppy and draggin’ ass.
So do something you don’t have time to do for yourself during the week and rest!
Enjoy your weekend!
