Here are four really important action items to put into practice, if you want to drive your efforts to completion.
1 – HAVE FAITH
In order to stay on track and be successful in your endeavors you have to have faith. As long as you have an unwavering, undeniable, belief in yourself and the goal your setting out to achieve, you will be motivated to succeed.
This also means making yourself a priority and giving yourself permission to focus on your needs to achieve your goal.
You may fall, but you stand up, dust yourself off, and keep going. That is not getting off track.
2 – REVISIT & REVISE GOALS
Goals do not have to be set in stone. In fact, being flexible and learning the ebb and flow with your progress will help you stay on track.
Revisit goals frequently to assess where you are with your progress in relation to where you thought you would be.
- If you’re ahead of schedule, assess the variables contributing your success and adjust goals to be more aggressive. This will help keep you engaged and make you even more successful.
- If you’re way behind schedule, look at the challenges and solutions you’ve put in place to overcome. If you need to give yourself more time because there are going to be more steps involved than previously expected, you’re being realistic and responsible in recognizing the changes that need to be made to reach your goals.
- If you’re right on schedule, continue to monitor your progress, what is going well and what challenges you’ve had. Eliminate hard stops and inefficiencies to catapult your progress.
3 – RECRUIT ACCOUNTABILITY BOARD
Accountability is to be responsible for answering to something within your power or control.
If YOU have set out to accomplish something, YOU are responsible for making plans, putting them into action, and carrying them through.
Regardless of the goal, challenges arise, emotions brew, and life happens! Who is going to hold YOU accountable for YOUR goal? Well, besides YOURself, there are lots of shoulders to lean on.
The more accountability partners you involve (what I like to call my accountability board) the better your chances for success.
Here are some examples of accountability partners and solutions:
- Spouse – your spouse or partner is most likely your closest confidant. If you have shared your goals and aspirations with your spouse, they are likely to lift you up and give you words of encouragement that help keep you going when you feel down. Invite your spouse to be an accountability partner so they know they have a specific role in your endeavor and are also motivated to help you succeed.
- Friends – Having a friend involved in a goal can be a great way to achieve success. Ever heard the saying two heads are better than one? Having a friend to collaborate with can be fun and motivating to keep you on track. Sometimes I will tell one person about a goal I’m trying to reach knowing they’re going to ask me about it the next time I see them. So they’re role is unbeknownst to them. No pressure.
- Pet – Dogs love exercise. If you’ve set fitness goals that require you to walk, jog, or run, consider taking your dog (or getting one) to motivate you to keep up with your progress. For example, my mom has a dog that will bring her her shoes and his leash to ask to go for a walk. Obviously all dogs are not this insistent but you catch my drift, right?
- Invest in YOURself – when you pay money for something, you have raised the stakes and shit just got real. You have skin in the game – something to lose if you don’t meet your goal. Here are some ways to invest in your goal to not only hold YOURself accountable but also to learn, grow, and take your progress to the next level:
Coach – there’s usually someone who specializes in an area you need help with. Think specifically about areas you want to improve and seek out a coach for assistance in that area.
Gym Membership – Get a NICE gym membership too. If $20/mo is easy for you to blow off, upgrade to a fancy gym that costs more money and has more amenities to enjoy. This will motivate you and keep you accountable.
Sign up for classes – if your goal involves learning material you’re unfamiliar with, this is a great way to invest in your education. Another example is signing up for a fitness class if your goal is fitness related. Fitness classes are an investment, are fun, and can be enjoyed with a friend.
4 – CONSISTENCY
Consistency is key to achieving any goal and staying on track!
Successful people continue to work hard even when they feel tired or shitty on the inside because they know if they keep working, they will continue to accumulate results.
Get in a routine of working toward your goal every day even when you don’t feel like it and you will get positive results.
Using these handful of tips and attributes to stay on track may take time to develop.
But, I can tell you if you believe in yourself, revisit your goals regularly, have an accountability board, and are consistently working toward your goal, there is no way to get OFF track.
You will stay on track and “Bee-Line” straight to your finish line.
You got this!
